Lent Day 1. Psalm 130

v. 4. Since forgiveness can only be done by the Lord, we revere only Him.

v. 6. My soul waits for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning, more than watchmen wait for the morning.

v. 7. O Israel, put your hope in the Lord, for with the Lord is unfailing love and with Him is full redemption.

◇ Why do watchmen wait for the morning?

Let's think about the watchmen who are keeping an eye out for enemies coming in the dark of night. Let's also add the situation of a cold winter. How tense and fearful they must be, trying to spot any movements of the enemy in the darkness! And if they have to fight against the cold that makes their hands and feet stiff... How desperate must they be to wait for the morning when everything will be visible and the cold of the night will disappear! When the morning comes, everything that tormented the watchmen disappears.

The poet confesses that waiting for the Lord is more earnest than watchmen waiting for the morning because only the Lord can grant forgiveness. The poet is fearful and frightened because of sin. Therefore, they want to receive forgiveness quickly and be free from fear.

Like the poet, are you eagerly waiting for the forgiving Lord? Isn't waiting too difficult?
