Psalm 2 : In "You are my Son," the will of God and the hope of man meet
I will tell the promise that the LORD made to me: "You are my son, because today I have become your father.(Ps 2:7)
Psalm 2 depicts a confrontation between Israel and other nations, in which Yahweh supports Israel. The psalm asserts that Yahweh is the God of Israel, but it also expresses the hope and confession that Yahweh will become the God of all nations, expanding Israel's borders. If there is an Adam-Christ typology, there is also an Israel-all nations typology.
In the phrase "You are my son," the will of God and human hope intersect, but at the same time, discrimination and exclusion also occur due to human tendencies to kick away the ladder. When God says, "You are my son," He kicks away the ladder of man.
Hans Urs von Balthasar sees human duality in the way people talk about hell, often referring to "someone else's hell." Rather than viewing hell as a scare tactic from God, let us see God's omnipotence in the salvation of all nations.
God, as you have not discriminated against me, so may I live without discrimination or exclusion of my neighbor. Amen.
