Psalm 5 : David and his adversary should benefit before God.

"Lord, please look at the enemies who are opposing me. Lead me with your justice. Make your way clear to me, straight ahead." (Psalm 5:8)

This is a picture of David praying for protection against his enemies, but that's just the surface level. If David's prayer is only focused on his own situation, what's the point of it being in the Bible?

Looking at the situation from God's perspective, who deserves justice? If God is dispensing fairness, both David and his adversary should benefit. How can God act in a way that shows both parties what true justice looks like?

The kingdom of heaven is often compared to a child playing near a snake's den. If the child gets bitten and you kill all the snakes, the child is safe but the paradise of the child playing with the snakes is lost.

David's main goal is to protect himself from his enemies, but when he prays for God's justice to save his enemies as well, he elevates his prayer to a biblical level.

O God, you send rain on both the good and the bad, and don't judge people based on human standards. Help me, Lord, to reflect your unobscured justice to those around me. Amen.
