Psalm 70: God is Great
Verse 4: But may all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you; may those who long for your saving help always say, "God is great!"
In Psalm 69, the psalmist prayed that those who seek God would not be shamed because of him. In Psalm 70, he prays that those who seek God would find joy and gladness in him. To avoid shame and humiliation for seeking God, there is only one way: God must be gracious and merciful to all, regardless of their good or evil deeds.
Good and evil are the highest categories of human value judgments. We often think of God and Satan as the highest authorities of good and evil, respectively,
and imagine a simple battle between them. Augustine also drew a line of time in The City of God, where good and evil are separated at the beginning, and a confrontation between them takes place until the end, where the victory of good is final.
However, the battle between good and evil is based solely on human value judgments. The God of the Bible represents our struggle between good and evil, but as we can see in the book of Job, evil is also in the hands of God. Good and evil are not divided in God. If we express it in a hierarchy, God is above the confrontation between good and evil. As long as the confrontation between good and evil continues in humans, someone will rejoice and someone will weep. However, if God does not follow the results of human value judgments, in other words, if we do not miss the image of God that the Bible sometimes shows us, all creatures, including humans, will always praise and say "God is great."
