Psalm 71: Faith Overcoming Disappointment
Verse 1: I run to you, LORD, for protection. Don't disappoint me.
David runs to God for protection. He does not want to be disappointed in God's embrace. Verse 1 is his simplest prayer. The rest of the verses are decorative elements to persuade God.
In the Bible, David rarely experienced disappointment, but those who read his prayers and praises today often feel disappointed. This is reality. Did the martyrs not feel disappointed and fully embraced in God's arms? Did their faith overcome disappointment? If there was no disappointment in running to God like David, who would not want to be a Christian?
Overcoming disappointment through faith is not possible through learning, gaslighting, or human belief. It is only possible through the call from heaven. In my last moments, I want to enter God's kingdom from this world, confessing, "God has been my refuge throughout my life. Therefore, I am not disappointed."
