2 Corinthians 2 (#2): The Fragrance of Christ

Verse 14: Thanks be to God, who always leads us as captives in Christ's triumphal procession and uses us to spread the aroma of the knowledge of him everywhere.

◇ One of the many reasons Paul gives thanks to God is that through him, many people come to know Christ. He metaphorically describes himself as a fragrance. It is the fragrance of Christ that emanates from him. This fragrance is the aroma of Christ that leads people to salvation.

Last night, I felt ashamed while watching TV. The news reported an incident that emitted a stench that drove people away from Christ instead of the fragrance that leads people to know Christ. How many non-Christians will mock the name of Jesus? How many Christians will leave the church? My heart ached.

We are the fragrance of Christ. Through our words and actions, we emit the aroma of Christ. Whether we realize it or not, whether we intend to or not, we are emitting a fragrance. The fragrance we emit can either lead people to Jesus Christ or drive them away.

Just as we check our own scent before going out, we should always examine what kind of fragrance we are emitting. If we are not emitting a fragrance that leads people to Christ but rather a stench that drives them away, we must cleanse ourselves and reapply the perfume of Christ.

♧ Lord, make me one who emits the fragrance that leads people to know Christ! Increase the number of those who follow Jesus because of me! Holy Spirit, lead me in truth!
