2 Corinthians 4 (#2): God Who Renews

Verse 16: Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.

◇ Our outer selves, our physical bodies, are gradually aging. These days, I am acutely experiencing the aging of the physical body. It is unstoppable and irreversible. This is our human destiny. It is a predetermined course. So, there is no need to be discouraged.

Fortunately, the thing to be thankful for is that at least our hearts are not aging. The body may be over 50, but the heart is still in its 20s. The heart is still vibrant. We must be careful at such times. Accidents happen when the body can't keep up with the heart.

What is even more thankful is that, like Paul's confession, although our outer physical body is aging, my spirit that is with God does not age. When hard and difficult things happen, there is confusion due to worries and conflicts, but we find our place again and find the way forward. It is not that I find it, but that I am led to find it. Every time I find a new path, I am renewed day by day and can only be thankful.

If we only perceive what we can sense, we cannot be renewed every day. But if we see the path shown by God, who we cannot perceive with our senses, we will be renewed every day. Like Paul.

So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. (2 Corinthians 4:18)

♧ God, do not let us be tied to only what we can see! Holy Spirit, lead us in truth!
