Psalm 106: Hallelujah
Verse 1: Hallelujah. Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.
God is the faithful one who forgives endlessly the sins of Israel, a people with many transgressions. This confession arises from their experience. While the psalmist in Psalm 105 drew boundaries around the periods of the exodus from Egypt, the wilderness, and the settling in Canaan, the psalmist in Psalm 106 specifically deals with Israel's rebellion and God's discipline within those boundaries. The summary of God's discipline is 'Hallelujah.' The last words of Israel's prophets are not judgment but salvation. Likewise, the conclusion of God's consideration is not punishment and judgment but the forgiveness of God. The Bible emphasizes forgiveness and salvation more than God's judgment.
