Psalm 131: The Poet's Life of Hope
Verse 1:
Lord, I have now abandoned my proud heart. I have turned away from arrogant ways. I do not strive for too much, nor do I seek to accomplish astonishing feats that are beyond my grasp.
The poet wants to discard a proud heart. The poet knows he can find peace when he places his hope in God, when he relies on Him. What has led the poet to this realization? Could it be the harsh experiences of the poet's life? A weaned child does not worry about the next feeding. A weaned child is simply at peace in its mother's arms. The poet hopes that his remaining life can be like that of a weaned child.
