2 Kings 10: Not one word has fallen to the ground

Verse 10:
Know then that not a word the Lord has spoken against the house of Ahab will fail. The Lord has done what he promised through his servant Elijah.

◇ This passage illustrates the fearsome nature of God's judgment. King Ahab died on the battlefield, his son Ahaziah fell through a railing and died from his injuries, Jezebel was thrown out of a window by eunuchs who had turned against her in support of the rebel Jehu, and Ahab's seventy sons were also killed by those who were once Ahab's servants and presented to Jehu, who then killed all the high officials who had been with Ahab, as well as the priests who had worshipped idols with Ahab and Jezebel.

The prophecy declared by Elijah in 1 Kings 21:20-24 was fulfilled to the letter. It clearly demonstrates that a prophecy according to God's will is sure to come to pass.

Note the terrifying nature of the long-awaited judgment of a merciful God. It is a thorough judgment against those who mock and despise God. It is to the extent that one might question if this is indeed the same merciful God.

♧ Lord, let us serve you with reverence and awe, let there be fear and trembling before you. Holy Spirit, lead us in truth!
