2 Kings 7: God is the One who will bring things to an end.
Verses 1-2: Elisha said, "Hear the word of the Lord. This is what the Lord says: About this time tomorrow, a seah of the finest flour will sell for a shekel and two seahs of barley for a shekel at the gate of Samaria." The officer on whose arm the king was leaning answered the man of God and said, "Look, even if the Lord should open the floodgates of the heavens, could this happen?" "You will see it with your own eyes," answered Elisha, "but you will not eat any of it!"
◇ Elisha is prophesying the restoration of Samaria. He declares that the misery, to the point where people were eating their own children due to the siege by King Ben-Hadad of Aram, will end and things will return to normal. However, people do not believe. One of the king's officials even ridicules God and mocks Elisha, saying that even if the Lord were to make windows in the sky, how could such a thing happen?
From King Joram to his officials, none show reverence for the Lord. They do not turn back to the Lord despite knowing why they have fallen into such calamity. The Lord is giving them an opportunity, but they are failing to seize it.
2 Kings 6:33 says, “When the messenger came and told the king, 'This disaster is from the Lord. Why should I wait for the Lord any longer?'”
The king is like a child. When parents scold or punish their children, the young ones focus only on the immediate injustice of their punishment, feeling unfairly treated and getting angry. They do not consider why they are being scolded or punished. The king knows who is bringing the disaster upon them. That's why the king is angry with Him. Instead of recognizing and repenting for their mistakes, they are solely focused on the disaster they are currently experiencing.
Why has the Lord brought such disaster upon Israel? Is it to torment the people of Israel? To destroy them? Or to save them? If this disaster has come from the Lord, who will be the one to end it? What attitude should the king and his people adopt?
