Lent Day 6 : Let's Harvest the Bread of Jesus! (John 4:28-32,36)

Lent Day 6
Let's Harvest the Bread of Jesus!
John 4:28-32,36

28 Then, leaving her water jar, the woman went back to the town and said to the people,
29 "Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did. Could this be the Messiah?"
30 They came out of the town and made their way toward Jesus.
31 Meanwhile his disciples urged him, "Rabbi, eat something."
32 But he said to them, "I have food to eat that you know nothing about."
36 Even now the one who reaps draws a wage and harvests a crop for eternal life, so that the sower and the reaper may be glad together.

◇ The Samaritan woman, who had been discussing living water with Jesus at the well, realized that this man was indeed the Messiah. She immediately got up and ran to her village. At noon, while the villagers were resting, she proclaimed to them that she had seen the Messiah. Hearing her, the villagers rushed out to Jesus.

While the woman was in the village, the disciples had returned with food for Jesus. But Jesus declared that he had another kind of food. The disciples wondered who could have brought him something to eat. No one had. Jesus, seeing the villagers approaching, was already satisfied. He was no longer hungry. Christians live on the word of God.

Christians have become children of God by partaking in the body and blood of Jesus. So, what did Jesus himself eat? Jesus was nourished by us returning to God. Those who repent and return are the Lord's sustenance.
Those enslaved by sin, serving as slaves to sin, lost in darkness and heading toward death, when they turn to the light and return as children of the Lord, running towards the kingdom of God, Jesus was filled.

Parents say they feel full just watching their children enjoy their meals. Parents work hard and sweat to provide delicious food for their children, and the mere thought of their growth brings smiles and joy, making them forget their hardships. Jesus, although the path of the cross was one of suffering, rejoiced and gave thanks for the pain when he saw people returning to God, giving glory to God.

Jesus is waiting for us to harvest. He is waiting for us to bring him his sustenance. Jesus is hungry now. He says, "Open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest." Jesus sowed the word and left. He sowed his flesh and blood. Now it's time to gather the ripe crops in the fields. Jesus invites both the sower and the reaper to enjoy the harvest together.

Let's go and harvest. Let's gather the Lord's sustenance.

God, your sustenance was the return of sinners to you. That's why you willingly endured the pain of suffering. Lord, now let us all become your workers and go out to harvest! Let us enjoy the harvest together! Holy Spirit, lead us in truth!
