Mark chap. 1

Mark 1: Proclamation of the Word for Healing and Deliverance

38 Jesus said to them, "Let us go somewhere else—to the nearby villages—so I can preach there also. That is why I have come."
39 So he traveled throughout Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and driving out demons.

Jesus was incarnated to proclaim the Word. The proclamation of the Word is Jesus' mission. What was the Word that Jesus sought to proclaim? The Gospel of Mark sees the proclamation of the Word as involving the healing of the sick, the casting out of demons, and the declaration of the forgiveness of sins. The proclamation of Jesus offers liberation from all ailments of the soul and body, a holistic healing and deliverance. This is the premise of the author (or editor) of the Gospel of Mark. The Word that Jesus proclaims cuts through the heart and marrow of the listener, as Apostle Paul described. It brings simultaneous healing to both the soul and the body of the listener. Therefore, the very coming and speaking of Jesus is the Good News itself.
