Matthew 3: The editor focuses the attention of the prophet Isaiah and even God on Jesus.

3 "A voice of one calling in the wilderness, 'Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him.'"
16 "As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him."

The editor of the Gospel of Matthew also directs the attention to Jesus through John the Baptist, who is called the last of the prophets. Ultimately, the editor even focuses God's attention on Jesus (in the baptism scene). He gathers the focus from the local regions of Judea and the Gentile nations, and between the people of Israel and the Gentiles, to the religious culmination of the prophets and the God of Judaism, all on Jesus. Jesus received the spotlight from heaven and earth, from God and humanity. Now the groundwork for his ministry was complete.
