1 John 1 (#2): Fellowship with God

1 John 1 (#2)
Fellowship with God

6 If we claim to have fellowship with God and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth.
7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.

◇ To have fellowship means to show your face to someone, exchange hearts, and do something together. Fellowship is about being together and mutually influencing each other.

In this sense, fellowship with God is being with him. It's about facing God, exchanging hearts with him, and living under his influence as human beings. And God knows and accepts our hearts. He becomes our Father, knows our needs, fulfills them, and leads us down a good path. It's not just us living with God's heart, but a mutual fellowship where he is with us as we live with his heart.

God is light. Light means truth, goodness, righteousness, and justice. Conversely, evil is darkness. Therefore, light does not coexist with darkness. They cannot be together. Light and darkness are like the north and south poles of a magnet.

However, in this world, light and darkness are mixed. Darkness pretends to be light. Many people live deceived by darkness. They are in darkness without realizing it. Therefore, God tells us not to go near darkness but to live in the light. He tells us to stay away from darkness.

To have fellowship with God means we are in the light. It means we speak and act in goodness, righteousness, and justice. Fellowship with God means living under his influence. Our lives reveal that we are influenced by him.

But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin (verse 7).

♧ God, I hope to dwell fully in your light. I earnestly hope that the influence of the Lord will be evident in my words and actions. Let me spread the fragrance of Christ. Holy Spirit, lead me in truth. Amen.
