Psalm 2: The Blessed Person

Psalm 2
The Blessed Person

10. Therefore, you kings, be wise; be warned, you rulers of the earth.
11. Serve the Lord with fear and celebrate his rule with trembling.
12. Kiss his son, or he will be angry and your way will lead to your destruction, for his wrath can flare up in a moment. Blessed are all who take refuge in him.

◇ Psalm 1 begins with "Blessed is the one," and Psalm 2 ends with "Blessed are all who take refuge in him." If you want to be blessed, it seems wise to read, meditate on, and live by these two psalms.

Sometimes, TV dramas depict a superior mistreating a subordinate, especially a new hire or intern. But it turns out that the subordinate is the grandchild of the company's chairman. The superior who mistreated them faces difficulties, while the one who helped the new hire gets a promotion.

Psalm 2 feels like such a drama.
"Many kings and rulers of the earth, wake up! Do you know who you are tormenting? They are my children whom I have established! You are causing them pain and suffering? I will shatter you like pottery. If you do not want to be broken, stop tormenting my children and take refuge in me. That person is truly blessed."

God warns those who torment his people. He will not stand by as his children are oppressed and plundered. He will show who the true ruler of the world is. Before facing wrath, he advises acknowledging God as the sovereign and taking refuge under his protection. That is where true blessing lies.

A truly blessed person is not one with power, wealth, or authority, but one who knows and reveres God and lives under his protection.

♧ God, let us live under your protection and guidance! Help us recognize, believe, and obey the true ruler of the world! Holy Spirit, guide us in truth! Amen.
