Psalm 32: Blessed is the One

Psalm 32
Blessed is the One

1. Blessed is the one whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered.
2. Blessed is the one whose sin the Lord does not count against them and in whose spirit is no deceit.

The psalmist speaks about the blessed person. He says that those whose transgressions and sins are forgiven are blessed. Those who are not condemned by God are blessed.

Paul also quotes this psalm in Romans 4:6, saying, "David says the same thing when he speaks of the blessedness of the one to whom God credits righteousness apart from works."

The greatest blessing for people is not anything else but God covering their sins. Isn't that why he sent his only Son, Jesus?

The psalmist says that when he kept silent about his sin (verses 3-5), God's hand was heavy on him, his strength was sapped as in the heat of summer, and he felt as if he was drowning in floodwaters.

The psalmist received great blessings when he did not hide his sin but confessed it (verse 5). He was delivered from trouble and distress. He was no longer like an uncomprehending horse or mule that must be controlled with bit and bridle, but gained freedom.

The blessed one is the person whose sin is covered and who has gained freedom. It is the person who freely and joyfully praises the Lord.

Lord God, let the sound of praise to you resound far and wide. Holy Spirit, guide us in truth. Amen.
