Psalm 33: The God Who Watches Over Us

Psalm 33
The God Who Watches Over Us

18. But the eyes of the Lord are on those who fear him,
on those whose hope is in his unfailing love,
19. to deliver them from death
and keep them alive in famine.
22. May your unfailing love be with us, Lord,
even as we put our hope in you.

The psalmist encourages us to praise the Lord. He urges us to play skillfully on the harp and lyre, and sing joyfully a new song to him.

The psalmist acknowledges that God created the world according to his plan and continues to care for it. He praises God for watching over those who fear him and hope in his unfailing love, rescuing them from death and sustaining them in times of famine.

God is not one who creates the world and then abandons it. He doesn't observe from a distance with casual indifference. Rather, he bends down to closely examine the world he has made (verses 13, 14, 15, 18).

The psalmist reveres this God who watches over the world and seeks his unfailing love. This is the God he praises.

God is still watching over us today. He is able to deliver us from death and sustain us in times of hunger.

Prayer: God, we praise you with joyful songs, accompanied by the harp and lyre. In your unfailing love, watch over us and deliver us from death and famine. Holy Spirit, guide us in truth. Amen.
