Joshua 10:1-15 "God Who Fights for Us"
Joshua 10:1-15 "God Who Fights for Us"
"The LORD said to Joshua, 'Do not be afraid of them; I have given them into your hand. Not one of them will be able to withstand you.'" (v.8)
After the fall of Ai and Gibeon's peace treaty with Israel, the kings of Jerusalem and other cities formed an alliance. This was because Gibeon, though without a king, was a powerful city with mighty warriors. When Gibeon heard of the approaching allied forces, they called upon Joshua for help, and he went to their aid. At this moment, God reassured Joshua not to be afraid.
Even after crossing the Jordan, conquering Jericho and Ai, and receiving Gibeon's surrender, it seems Joshua and the Israelites still harbored fears in their hearts. Who wouldn't be afraid when faced with an alliance of multiple cities raising armies against them? This mirrors our own anxieties when confronting new challenges.
God, knowing their hearts, once again encouraged them: "Do not be afraid, be strong." And He delivered victory to them. As verse 14 states, "The LORD fought for Israel." When the Lord fights for us, victory is assured. When we trust in the Lord and remain courageous, He stands with us.
Prayer: Lord who fights for us, grant us strength and courage to move forward. Help us understand Your heart and live according to Your will. Though we are weak, we believe in victory through Your power, not our own. Holy Spirit, make us strong and courageous. Amen.
