Joshua 4: "Remember and Pass It On"

Joshua 4: "Remember and Pass It On"

"In the future, when your children ask their fathers, 'What do these stones mean?' tell them, 'Israel crossed the Jordan on dry ground.'"

The Israelites crossed the Jordan River. They finally set foot in the Promised Land they had dreamed of. God instructed these emotionally overwhelmed Israelites to choose one man from each tribe to take stones and build a memorial. He told them that when their children would ask about these stones in the future, they should explain how the Lord dried up the Jordan's waters for their crossing. This memorial was established to commemorate God's saving acts - to remember how He brought Israel into Canaan.

The crossing of the Jordan wasn't just something to remember personally - it needed to be passed down to future generations. They needed to share this story so their descendants would not forget the God of salvation and abandon the Almighty.

Do we have experiences to share with our children and descendants? Have we experienced the grace of the Lord God? Are we effectively passing on our knowledge of God, our Savior, to the next generation?

Not only should we remember and faithfully serve the God who saved us, but it's crucial that we effectively transmit this relationship to future generations.

Prayer: Good and righteous God, help us experience and remember Your saving acts, and enable us to effectively pass this knowledge to our beloved children. Holy Spirit, make us strong and courageous. Amen.
