Luke 13:22-35 You Evildoers
25. Once the master of the house gets up and shuts the door, you will stand outside knocking and pleading, 'Lord, open the door for us.' But he will reply, 'I don't know where you come from.'
26. Then you will say, 'We ate and drank with you, and you taught in our streets.'
27. But he will tell you, 'I don't know you or where you come from. Away from me, all you evildoers!'
◇ The master who shuts the door and refuses to open it for those he does not recognize, even though they ate and drank with him and he taught them, represents the image of Jesus as the Judge on the last day.
It is hard to imagine that the one who was crucified could make such a firm and decisive judgment. When they plead that they ate and drank with him and he taught them, his response is "Away from me, all you evildoers!" Evildoers!
Even those who appear to be his disciples, with whom he shared meals and teachings, if they are evildoers, Jesus does not know them. Evildoers are not his disciples, but strangers to him.
[1 John 1:7] But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.
♧ Righteous God, make us dwell in the light and be the light of the world. May we not be the object of the world's ridicule, but one who is attractive. Holy Spirit, make us strong and courageous. Amen.
