Luke 15:11-32 The Heart of a Parent Who Has Lost a Child
"For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found." And they began to celebrate.
◇ These days, a popular drama features the story of a parent who lost their young child. Some even criticize and condemn the parent, asking how they could go on living. However, parents who have lost a child carry that child in their hearts for the rest of their lives. They never forget.
The famous "Parable of the Prodigal Son" is sometimes called the "Parable of the Father Who Found His Lost Son."
The son had been living an impure life, associating with Gentiles and squandering his father's inheritance. Yet when he returned, the father joyfully welcomed him, even throwing a celebratory feast and announcing it to the whole neighborhood, unashamed.
Who can fathom the heart of a parent who has buried a lost child? God's heart toward us is always like that.
♧ Gracious and merciful Father, help us to understand Your heart. May we reflect Your compassion and righteousness. Holy Spirit, make us strong and courageous. Amen.
