Luke 8:16-17 Light That Cannot Be Hidden
16. "No one, when he has lit a lamp, covers it with a vessel or puts it under a bed, but sets it on a lampstand, that those who enter may see the light.
17. For nothing is secret that will not be revealed, nor anything hidden that will not be known and come to light."
What can hide light? You may try to cover window light with blackout curtains, but even the smallest gap allows light to squeeze through. Truly, hiding light is an arduous task.
Jesus told His disciples to be the light and salt of the world. Becoming light and salt means emulating Jesus' heart and following His teachings. It means living humbly, serving others with love and compassion.
This life of following Jesus cannot be hidden. Being light and salt means that even with attempts to conceal it, the smallest opening will reveal it to the world—illuminating and flavoring everything around.
The light that cannot be hidden, the light that brightens the world—Jesus wants us to become the light of the world.
Gracious God, being the light and salt of the world requires sacrifice—burning and dissolving oneself... just like Jesus did. Holy Spirit, help us to be strong and courageous, Amen.
