Luke 9:46-50 Who Is the Greatest?
48. He said to them, "Whoever welcomes this little child in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me. For it is the one who is least among you all who is the greatest."
People's standards and Jesus' standards are vastly different. In fact, they are completely opposite. By human standards, greatness is measured by being served, honored, and ruling over others. But Jesus' standard is about serving. The truly great person, according to Jesus, is one who respects and treats kindly those who are like children—small, powerless, without ability or authority, and lowly in status.
Gracious God, help us to respect all people and treat them with kindness and sincerity. Holy Spirit, make us strong and courageous. Amen.
