1 Chronicles 11 - "Growing Stronger and Stronger"
1 Chronicles 11 - "Growing Stronger and Stronger"
3. Then all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron, and David made a covenant with them before the Lord. And they anointed David as king over Israel, according to the word of the Lord through Samuel.
9. And David became greater and greater, for the Lord of hosts was with him.
From hardship to glory - the days of anguish have ended, and the season of honor has begun. The young shepherd David, anointed by Samuel, has now become king in Hebron. For nearly 20 years, he had wandered the wilderness, fleeing from the relentless pursuit of Saul. But now, he has reached the culmination of that arduous journey.
David has conquered Jerusalem and laid the foundation of his kingdom. Yet, he did not accomplish this alone. He was surrounded by a band of mighty warriors who remained loyal to him. When David longed for water, these men risked their very lives to penetrate enemy lines and bring it to him. It was their devotion and sacrifice that enabled David to ascend to the throne.
Moreover, David's reverence for God and his willingness to honor the dedication of his men before the Lord were the driving forces that propelled him to this glorious position.
In the beginning and the end, it is the anointing hand of God that orchestrates these events. It was God who chose the unassuming shepherd David and poured oil upon him. It was God who protected and guided him through the wilderness, fulfilling the promise of the anointing.
O Lord, may we, like David, cultivate a heart that fears and honors You. Provide us with loyal and sacrificial warriors who will stand by us. May all glory be ascribed to Your name. Holy Spirit, empower us to be strong and courageous. Amen.
