1 Chronicles 18: Justice and Righteousness
1 Chronicles 18: Justice and Righteousness
11. King David dedicated these articles to the LORD, as he had done with the silver and gold he had taken from all these nations: Edom and Moab, the Ammonites and the Philistines, and Amalek.
14. David reigned over all Israel, doing what was just and right for all his people.
◇ David systematically dealt with the surrounding nations one by one. Sometimes he conquered them through warfare, and other times he made them submit and pay tribute voluntarily.
From his victories and the tribute he received, David dedicated the most precious items to God. These would later be used by his son Solomon in building the temple.
David's desire to build a temple for God came from the depths of his heart. He didn't use the spoils of war to adorn his own palace or indulge in luxury. Instead, he offered them to God.
David never abused the power entrusted to him. He governed according to God's law with justice and righteousness. He established a collaborative system of governance, working alongside administrative officials, priests, scribes, and regional governors.
National power must never be treated as personal property. The authority entrusted for the sake of the people—God's people—is not individual but public power. This principle applies equally to nations and churches alike.
♧ Good and righteous God, help me to use what You have given me in ways that are good and just. Holy Spirit, grant me strength and courage. Amen.
