1 Chronicles 25 : Glory Through Praise

1 Chronicles 25 <Glory Through Praise>

1. David, together with the commanders of the army, set apart some of the sons of Asaph, Heman and Jeduthun for the ministry of prophesying, accompanied by harps, lyres and cymbals. Here was the list of the men who performed this service:

◇ There's a friend of mine whom I truly envy. This friend has an incredible singing voice. Wherever he goes, he has the ability to lift the atmosphere with his songs. I've always been envious of his musical talent because, frankly, I'm tone-deaf and have no sense of rhythm.

When I first began ministry as an evangelist, one of the most challenging tasks was leading worship songs. I remember having to position some of the young people who could play instruments and sing well right beside me for support.

At that church, I established both a student praise team and a young adults' worship team. It wasn't because I had musical ability or a particular love for music myself. It was because I understood how vital praise is to worship offered to God. Even though I couldn't carry a tune and lacked musical talent, I formed these praise teams for the sake of worship unto God. With the help of many people, these praise teams came to life, and even now, the teams that were established back then continue to offer beautiful praise.

David prepares to serve God. He fairly assigned the duties of the priests by casting lots, ensuring no favoritism. Following this, he organizes the choir. From among the Levites—specifically from the sons of Asaph, Heman, and Jeduthun—he selects by lot those who would learn to sing praises to the Lord and master the harp, cymbals, and lyre to worship God.

Praise plays a crucial role in maintaining the holiness of worship and the unity of the community, leading the faith community and revealing God's power. This is why David, after organizing the priestly duties, proceeds to establish the choir.

♧ God, You who are worthy of all praise, let our church overflow with praise that enriches our worship. May our sanctuary be filled not with praise based on skill, but with worship offered in spirit and in truth. Holy Spirit, make us strong and bold. Amen.
